LAW & PUBLIC SAFETY

PROGRAM LENGTH: 2 years

The First Responder Pathway is for students who want a practical head start in emergency services. Students train in structured, technical courses that emphasize calm decision-making, clear communication, and real-world readiness. The pathway supports careers in EMS, fire service, dispatch, and related public safety roles.

By the end of the program, students will learn skills in:

  • Patient assessment fundamentals and responding to urgent situations
  • CPR/BLS, AED use, and basic emergency care procedures
  • Airway, trauma, shock, respiratory, and cardiac emergency basics
  • Teamwork under pressure, scene safety, and professional communication
  • Scenario-based practice and lab skills that mirror real response work

Law and Public Safety I with Lab

Students develop a basic understanding of concepts, processes, and institutions of the criminal justice system; including skills and knowledge in preparing students for successful entry into the public safety profession at the federal, state, county or local level as well as law school. This course is designed to encompass core disciplines integrated throughout the curriculum through labs, report writing, physical education, guest speakers, and field trips. Students will experience how laws work to meet human problems and how interpretations of laws adjust within an evolving social order. Students will also be provided with an academic base to enable them to pursue further education upon completion of the program and linked to recruiters in various fields, i.e. law enforcement, corrections, public and private security and military.


Students who choose to complete this course while enrolled in the partner University/Community college will receive 6.0 college credits per year at that school, and be required to pay corresponding fees. Students will also practice skills learned in the practical lab portion of the course which includes a Virtual Police Simulator, crime solving techniques (CSI), Crime Scene management, mock trials, and various other technical training.

Students build on the understanding of concepts taught in Law & Public Safety I and develop skills and knowledge in further preparing students for successful entry into the public safety profession at the federal, state, county or local level. This course is designed to encompass core disciplines integrated throughout the curriculum through labs, report writing, physical education, guest speakers, and field trips.

Students will be eligible to work with local police departments to participate in ride-alongs and shadowing. Students will experience how laws work within today’s society, covering ethical dilemmas and more intense training for criminal investigations building on their academic base from CTE I. Students will also be linked to recruiters in various fields of law enforcement including corrections, public and private security and military.

Students have the opportunity to earn two professional certifications: Crime Scene Management Certification and Psychological First Aid Certification.


Students who complete this course while enrolled in the partner University/Community college will receive corresponding college credit at that school, and be required to pay corresponding fees.

Students will learn more extensive forensic training. This course is designed to encompass core disciplines integrated throughout the curriculum through labs, report writing, physical education, guest speakers, and field trips. Students will experience how laws work within today’s society, covering ethical dilemmas and more intense training for criminal investigations building on their academic base from CTE I and II. Students will also be linked to recruiters in various fields of law enforcement including corrections, public and private security and military. Students who complete this course while enrolled in the partner University/Community college will receive corresponding college credit at that school, and be required to pay corresponding fees. Students will also practice skills learned in the hands-on lab portion of the course which includes a Virtual Police Simulator, crime solving techniques and Crime Scene Management and various hands-on training as in CSI. Students will receive 2.0 CTE or Elective credits towards their high school diploma upon completion of this two semester course (1 credit each semester).

In this course, students will design a project using the fundamentals of project management, conduct research on their topic of interest, then produce a final written report, portfolio, or a presentation that summarizes and demonstrates student learning. The capstone project will relate to academic accomplishments and demonstrate mastery of the subject.

Students will receive 1.0 CTE or Elective credit upon completion of this two-semester course (0.5 credit each semester).

Throughout the Law & Public Safety program, students develop foundational skills in law enforcement, criminal investigations, and public safety procedures. Practical training, simulations, and real-world experiences help students build practical knowledge used in public safety careers.

Students have the opportunity to earn professional certifications in Crime Scene Management and Psychological First Aid, demonstrating skills in investigative procedures and crisis response. These credentials support pathways into law enforcement, corrections, security, and other public safety fields.
